It is said that “a Peoples” strength is not found in its strongest moments but instead in its saddest. We, as Indigenous People seem to have had our more than fair share of sadness. After all we had stolen from us in spirituality, culture, history, etc. we are also continually losing our Women and Girls, Including 2SLGBTQQIA people. Why must our Sisters, Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties, & Brothers voices be quenched by the evil of others? Then why must a system that is there to protect all, hide its face from our People?
In our Traditions and Spiritual beliefs all voices join together in both the Great Creator’s work and the Growth of your Peoples. This is why our children are taught to experience all and partake in all the community has to offer. But when these voices are gone, they do not end. For even in this great sadness of loss, we hear their words and messages. For with our Peoples the physical ends here, is by far never the end of ones journey or being. So the message or song is always carried on the wind for all Who Wish to partake of.
This is one Truth behind the MMIWG Initiative; we refuse to lose these voices on the wind. Yes, many reports, ideas, thoughts, condonations, etc. were added, however the great truth is that we wish for nothing more for all these missing and murdered ones voices to be heard again. Next, the great Creator has given us a number of great gifts like connection to Mother Earth and each other being but one, another is that every Indigenous person shares in the responsibility of being a voice for both Mother Earth AND each other. So the next Great phase of the MMIWG’s Initiative is to carry these voices from the wind to others and proclaim their wisdom.
This truly is the hardest part, for the sadness is felt by all of us. But we must stand with weeping hearts and listen to the Wind’s message from our Sisters, Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties, & Brothers and then allow our voices to be theirs. For only when we all see past our sadness and anger to proclaim the wisdom of these wise ones can we hope to stop the continuing destruction of our Peoples. So join with all the many others that hear and proclaim.
