Regional Director Karl Masters has been a member of OCIP for just over a year and serves as Director for Region 4 (Algoma District) and President of his local (Bawaating or Sault Ste. Marie) community, Algoma Indigenous Council (AIC). Karl is a direct descendant of the Anishinaabe, Ojibwe peoples of Bawaating (Sault Ste. Marie) ON.
Karl is also a strong advocate for self-determination and creating a resource-based economy among Indigenous peoples across Ontario and Canada. Region 4 focuses on members' registry, economic development projects, housing initiatives, and community care programs.
“It is an honour and a privilege to serve my community through sacrifice and leadership. I am humbled by the legacy of those who have come before me, who have been fighting for Indigenous rights since my birth in 1972. Through service and leadership, I seek to honour the legacy of those who came before me to advance Indigenous people’s quality of life in Canada.”
