Governor Region 9:  Henry Bouchard

Hello! My name is Henry Bouchard. I was born on Vale Island on the Great Slave Lake in the town of Hay River, N.W.T. I am a non-status indigenous person living off reserve.
I came to life about 1 km from the Kʼatlodeeche First Nations Reserve. I loved sports as a youth and represented the N.W.T. several times at the Arctic Winter Games in Hockey and Biathlon.
If you Google my name and my home town, you will see me lighting the torch at the opening ceremonies of the Arctic Winter Games in 1984 in Yellowknife.
I attended the University of Alberta (B.A. Political Science) and was certified to teach at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, Québec.
My parents both spoke French as a first language.
I have taught in southern Ontario at a French-as-a-first-language school for 35 years. I teach mostly Canadian Studies (Law and Civics, etc.) but have taught many varied subjects and was a high-school guidance counselor for a decade.
I love camp fires, playing guitar, singing and telling stories.
I am a husband and a father of two young adults attending university at Western.
